How is DMK going to face this?

The existing DMK While the Madras High Court is automatically investigating the cases against various ministers in the government, Minister I. The Madras High Court has quashed the acquittal of Periaswamy in the corruption case.

Successive cases of bending ministers in Tamil Nadu - What is DMK going to do?

The present Rural Development Minister of Tamil Nadu I. Periyasamy, 2006-2011 DMK. He was the Housing Minister during the regime. In March 2008, then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's security officer C. Ganesan submitted a petition to the Housing Board.

In that petition, he had claimed that he was living in a rented house and was paying a large amount of rent for it, so he sought allotment of a house. His petition was accepted on March 6, 2008 and he was allotted a housing plot for the higher income category of the Housing Board in Chennai as a 'flawless and honest' government official. The Minister's approval was received for this on March 10.

Periyasamy acquitted by special court

In 2011, ADMK After coming to power, the Tamil Nadu Anti-Corruption and Vigilance Department registered a case in this regard. On 17th December 2012 Speaker B. Dhanapal allowed prosecution in this regard. However, I said that the governor should give permission for this case and not the Speaker and he should acquit himself from this case by mentioning some other things. Periyasamy sued.

The special court to try MPs and MLAs dismissed the petition on July 6, 2016. The Madras High Court in November 2022 and the Supreme Court in December upheld the verdict. On February 21, 2023, I filed another case in the Special Court. Periyasamy. In that case, I once again argued that the Governor should have sanctioned the case against him. Periyasamy. This time the special court accepted this argument and acquitted him from the case and gave its verdict on March 17, 2023.he High Court ordered a rehearing of the case

In this situation, the Madras High Court voluntarily took up the case for hearing in September last year. During the final hearing of this case last Monday, lawyer Ranjith Kumar, who appeared on behalf of the minister, argued that if the trial court considers that there are insufficient reasons in such cases, the courts have the right to quash the case. He said that there is no reason to file a case against the minister as he has allotted the house as per the norms. He also pointed out that the Supreme Court has many times upheld the order of release of such special courts.

Justice Anand Venkatesh delivered the judgment in this case today. Minister I. The judge ordered that the case against Periyasamy and others should be re-investigated and the case should be conducted daily. It has been ordered that anyone who tries to drag out the case should be remanded in judicial custody and the registrar of the Madras High Court should be kept informed of the progress of the case from time to time.

Cases that bend ministers

In the last few months, the third Tamil Nadu Minister I. Periyasamy. Prior to this, Prohibition and Power Minister Senthil Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on charges related to taking money to fill the posts of the Transport Department during the previous regime. As of now, he has resigned from his ministerial post as he has not been granted bail.

Next to this, higher education minister Ponmudi and his wife Visalakshi were each sentenced to 3 years in prison in the asset hoarding case and Rs. 50 lakh fine was also imposed. His ministership was subsequently lost. Apart from this, the current Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Finance Minister Thangam Thanaras, Former Minister K. Judge Anand Venkatesh is investigating the acquittal of Ponmudi from the asset hoarding cases.

In which K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, the court is hearing the case challenging the Anti-Corruption and Vigilance Department's decision to close the asset-hoarding cases against Thangam South. Regarding the Ponmudi case, the court is hearing the case challenging his acquittal from that case. K.K.S.S.R. In the Ramachandran and Thangam Tenara cases, they were acquitted only because the Anti-Corruption and Vigilance Department decided to close the case after the regime change.

Anand Venkatesh has announced that he will investigate whether the anti-bribery department's decision was correct and whether the decision of the anti-bribery department was accepted by the special court.

What is DMK going to do?

DMK's spokesperson Constantine says DMK's name cannot be tarnished by such issues.

On the one hand central government agencies like the Enforcement Directorate are targeting the DMK. On the other hand, these actions raise doubts that the court is also involved. DMK everyone together. They want to build an image of a corrupt party.

But the people of Tamil Nadu are very political. They will understand some things unexpectedly. DMK from 2011 to 2021 Not in power. If there was a mistake on our part, could we have taken action during those ten years, when Jayalalithaa was the Chief Minister? Could the enforcement department that came to power in 2014 have taken action?

As far as BJP is concerned, DMK is the most feared after Congress. People understand an action based on who is taking it. All this cannot tarnish the name of DMK. DMK lost one seat out of 39 seats in 2019. DMK won 39 seats this time. Like it," says Constantine.

DMK ADMK's former chief minister O. Cases against Panneerselvam and former minister Varamathi are also listed before Justice Anand Venkatesh. The Supreme Court has imposed an interim stay only on the case against Varamathi.
