Tamil Nadu political parties have started working towards the 2024 parliamentary elections. The parties including the ruling party DMK and the opposition party AIADMK have formed committees and started working on constituency allocation, report preparation and coordination of election work. This time the DMK alliance has entered the field with a target of 40 to 40. AIADMK is confident that it will convert opposition to DMK into votes and win.

Parliamentary Elections: Is BJP waiting for AIADMK to join the alliance? What's the situation?

Other parties like Congress, BJP, BMC, Liberation Tigers of India and Left parties have also started running fast towards the upcoming elections. At the same time actor Vijay has started a new party which is seen as a major event In this case, questions such as how many seats in the DMK alliance, who is going to be in the AIADMK alliance, what are the moves of the BJP, and what is the role of other state parties are occupying the political field.

DMK alliance

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which is currently the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, is headed by the same alliance that contested the last assembly. Only Indian Democratic Party has already merged with BJP. Tamilan Prasanna has said that he will continue with the same alliance. In this case, the alliance parties will be given fewer seats than in the last system, according to sources related to DMK.

More specifically, information has come out that DMK is definitely going to contest 25 seats this time and 15 seats are going to be reserved for other alliance parties. A committee headed by DMK treasurer DR Balu has been formed for allotment of constituencies. The group is engaged in preliminary discussions.

DMK spokesperson Tamilan Prasanna said, "The committee has started the discussion on the constituency distribution. Beyond this, the alliance leader will decide how many constituencies and which seats should be given to whom after the return of Chief Minister Mukherjee Stalin from abroad."

Talking about the election work, he said, "Election reporting work is underway. District level work special meetings are going on under the leadership of Chief Secretary KN Nehru and Sports Minister Udayanidhi.

First phase negotiation

DMK has held talks with Congress and Communist Party of India in the first phase. Information is spreading in the political field that the Congress has given a list to contest in more seats than in the last election, but this time the DMK is planning to allocate only 5 to 7 seats to the Congress.

But speaking about this, Congress Legislative Committee President Selvaperundagai said, "We participated in the first phase of talks with DMK under the leadership of Mukul Wasnik, one of the all-India leaders of the Congress. We happily said goodbye after talking that we can decide later which constituency and how many constituencies we are contesting," he said.

After this, he said that there will be another negotiation on February 9. When asked whether the number of constituencies will decrease for the Congress, which contested on the basis of 9+1 last time, he said, “No, the DMK-Congress alliance is strong. We also have the right to ask. They also have a generous heart to give.

The position of the Left

The Communist Party of India concluded the first round of talks with the DMK yesterday (February 3). This time they were expected to ask for more seats than before, but they walked out within 10 minutes of the negotiation.

When asked about this from the party's state secretary Mutharasan, he said, "The negotiations have ended smoothly. We have expressed our desire. The next round of negotiations will continue. Other matters will be announced later,” he replied. Another left-wing party, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is set to go for talks on Sunday (4.2.2024). Sources in the party say that they are also likely to ask for three seats this time.

DMK's other alliance parties

The other main ally of the DMK, the Vimithya Siruthai Party, contested in one of the two constituencies contested in the last election under the DMK symbol and the other under the Pani symbol. In this case, there are reports that this time, additional places will be asked to compete in the pot symbol in all places. When asked about this from one of the leaders of Vishika, Vanniarasu said, “We cannot give any information at the moment. The announcement will be made in 10 days only after the party leadership takes a decision and talks," he said.

There are reports that other alliance parties such as Madhimuk, Indian Union Muslim League, Kongu Nadu People's National Party and Tamil Nadu Life Rights Party are expecting the same seats that have already been given to them.

In particular, Madhyamik leader Vaiko has said, "I will not create an environment to force the DMK." Apart from this, talks are going on that if the People's Justice Center Kamal Haasan also joins the DMK alliance, he may also be allotted a seat.

What is the status of AIADMK alliance?

The opposition AIADMK is handling the election work more patiently than the ruling party. Speaking to former minister and AIADMK leader Jayakumar about this, he said that the works are being carried out on a wartime basis.

Talking about the AIADMK-BJP alliance, he said, “There is no 1000% chance of joining the alliance with the BJP. As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, DMK and BJP are both our political enemies.

So apart from these two parties we will include whoever comes. Many parties are ready to contest elections under our leadership. An announcement will be made soon," he said.

Talking about the parties that were already in the alliance, he said, "Parties including Tamil State Congress, Patali Makkal Party will come in the alliance led by us. There is no possibility for them to have an alternative opinion,” he said.

Likewise Sasikala is not going to join the likes of O. Panneerselvam and TTV Dhinakaran any time soon. Jayakumar also said that AIADMK will continue without them.

In this case, there are some reports that Tamil State Congress President GK Vasan is involved in trying to bring about a merger between BJP and AIADMK. GK Vasan reportedly met JP Natta and Edappadi Palanichamy recently because of this.

Just a regular meeting

Responding to this, GK Vasan said, “I met JP Natta when I went to the meeting as a Rajya Sabha member. We laughed and talked for five minutes.

Even three days ago I spoke to Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai on phone about his trip. I saw Edappadi Palaniswami yesterday. As a party leader, this is a regular meeting," he said.

And when asked about the alliance, he said, “The state executive committee meeting will be held in Chennai on the 12th. "Depending on the decision taken there, with whom the alliance will be announced," he said.

What is BJP going to do?

After the breakup of the AIADMK-BJP alliance, BJP leaders have largely remained silent on the alliance. In this case, we spoke to the party's state vice-president Narayanan Tirupathi about the election preparations.

He said, "Our target is to win 25 constituencies. For the last one and a half years, we have done work to strengthen the party."

When asked about the AIADMK alliance, he said, “The leadership will decide on the alliance. Our aim is to strengthen the party in all 39 constituencies. We have done it well. We will definitely win," said Narayanan Tirupathi.

When the question was raised about the India alliance, he said, “The India alliance is broken all over the country. I don't understand why DMK is holding on to Congress only in Tamil Nadu. "I don't know when the DMK will understand that the Congress is an unnecessary burden," he said.

India alliance

State parties have come together under the leadership of the Congress in the name of India Alliance to oppose the BJP across the country. In this case, Nitish Kumar, who was in that alliance, has recently formed the government in Bihar along with the BJP. Some like Mamata Banerjee have announced that they will contest alone in the state.

Speaking about the BJP's criticism, Selvaperundagai said, "The AIADMK has dismissed the BJP as an additional burden. Ask them to answer there. The DMK-Congress alliance has been a winning alliance for the last few years. At the same time, Chandrababu Naidu, Akali Dal, Edappadi Palanichami and others left the BJP. But we continue as a firm alliance," he said.Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam President Vijay

Beyond the mainstream parties, the debate over the role of actor Vijay's new party Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam in this election is simmering in the political arena. Even though Vijay has announced that he will not participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the question has been raised as to who the vote of his party workers will go to.
