As always, Mayawati has reiterated her stand to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections alone. Although he has not ruled out his post-election alliances, he is now set to contest the Lok Sabha elections alone.

2024 Lok Sabha Elections: Is Mayawati Running Alone To Help BJP?

Before the third meeting of the India Alliance in September last year, he had said that his party would contest alone. Mayawati said that forming an alliance and contesting the election will cause loss to the BSP. Although most of the parties want to form an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party, this time they will contest the Lok Sabha elections alone.

With Mayawati's announcement, the chances of the Bahujan Samaj Party's opposition parties joining the India Alliance have come to an end. It is said that some Congress leaders tried till the last minute to include the BSP in the India alliance. Now, after the Bahujan Samaj Party has announced that it will contest the elections alone, it has again been accused of being in the BJP's "B" team.

It is also said to be a setback for the India Alliance's attempt to jointly challenge the BJP in the Uttar Pradesh elections. Mayawati has announced that she will contest alone and has created a three-cornered contest in the elections. Will his decision benefit the BJP?

Will Mayawati's decision be a disaster for the India alliance?

This is not the first time that Mayawati's party has announced that it will contest the elections alone. Except for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BSP contested alone every time. But after the election in Uttar Pradesh, it formed an alliance and won 4 times.

Political analysts say that this decision of Mayawati will be favorable for the India alliance."Since the late 1980s, the kind of opportunistic politics the BSP has been practicing," says veteran journalist and political analyst Sarath Pradhan.

Is BJP threatening Mayawati?

It is being talked about in political circles that the Modi government has strengthened its grip on Mayawati in the asset transfer case. It is also said that the Bahujan Samaj Party has been forced to support the BJP due to this.

"There is no doubt that the Modi government is using agencies like the Enforcement Directorate, the CBI, and rich political leaders to fear," says Sharad Pradhan.

Sharad Gupta also pointed this out and said that some things are out of their hands. So Mayawati has announced her successor. He steps back a bit and presents Akash Anand.

But veteran journalist Sunathi Aaron said, "Mayawati's personality is not something that the enforcement agencies fear. She has only changed her political style."

Fall of Bahujan Samaj Party

The BSP did not win a single seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Since then its influence in elections has continued to decline. In the last assembly elections of 2017, out of total 403 constituencies, it was able to win only 19 constituencies. This was its worst performance since winning 12 seats in 1991. It won 80 seats in the 2012 assembly elections.

The BSP won only one seat in the 2022 assembly elections. Then the Bahujan Samaj Party's vote percentage dropped to 12.88 percent in the assembly elections.

In Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the BSP has four to eight percent of the electorate. But this party could not use it here. Many political analysts say that Mayawati's party is now on the decline and gradually it will be completely forgotten from people's minds.

But with 12 per cent votes in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati cannot be sidelined so soon, says veteran journalist Suneed Iran. His strength will be known in 2024 elections.

This election will show how far his core voters are with him. Still a large section of Dalit voters support him. It is said that Mayawati will no longer do grassroots politics. Communication with his supporters has declined. Now he is only doing armchair politics from where he was. Sometimes participates in one or two rallies or makes statements.

Commenting on Mayawati's trend, Sunathi Aron says, "She was very much in tune with the people before she became Chief Minister for the fourth term in 2007. At that time, she was locked up in her home and office for security as her life was in danger."

He also said, "There has been a change in his politics since 2012. He stopped raising aggressive slogans. He was getting 19 to 20 percent votes without going anywhere. That's why politicians were interested in forming an alliance with him. Atal Bihari Vajpayee wanted to ally with the BSP not only in Uttar Pradesh but across the country. ” he says.

"BJP is trying hard to get Dalit votes which Congress and BSP have. But BJP wants Dalit votes without BSP. If Mayawati gets 6 to 7 percent votes in 2024 elections then we can say she is becoming unfit for politics," he said. Says Sunathi Aaron.
