Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was on a visit to Buldana district on February 22, 2024. Meanwhile, he addressed public meetings at Chikhli, Motala, Jalgaon Jamod and criticized the policies of the Modi government. Through this, it is seen that the Thackeray group has blown the trumpet for Buldhana Lok Sabha.

Buldhana Lok Sabha: Eknath Shinde or BJP, who will field a candidate? What is Uddhav Thackeray's strategy?

On the other hand, Eknath Shinde has also shown his insistence for this seat by holding a meeting in Buldhana. Although no party has officially announced the name of the candidate from the district yet, the leaders of all the parties have started campaigning in their own way.

What happened in 2019?

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rajendra Shingane contested from the Congress-NCP alliance in the Buldhana Lok Sabha constituency, while Prataprao Jadhav contested from the alliance. Baliram Shirskar from Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi was in the field.

In this election, the issues of irrigation, loan waiver, unpaid crop insurance money, employment, stalled Jalna-Khamgaon railway were prominent in the district. But, since Narendra Modi was the prime ministerial candidate of the NDA alliance, it benefited Prataprao Jadhav and he won.If you look at the statistics of votes, Dr. Rajendra Shingane got 3 lakh 88 thousand 690 votes and Prataprao Jadhav got 5 lakh 21 thousand 977 votes.

In this Buldana Lok Sabha election 2019, the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi factor was decisive. In this election Baliram Shirskar got 1 lakh 72 thousand votes. The number of votes that Vanchit got was almost 38 thousand more than the number of votes by which the leading candidate Rajendra Shingane lost.

Therefore, it will be important for the residents of the district to see whether the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi will go with the Mahavikas Aghadi in the 2024 elections.

Who's in the fray for 2024?

It is understood that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde himself is insisting on the candidature of Prataprao Jadhav, the sitting MP of Buldhana. Because when Eknath Shinde revolted from Shiv Sena, he was supported by Prata Prao. So it is clear that Eknath Shinde will not leave this seat easily.

On the other hand, there is a discussion in the political circles of the district that an internal survey of the BJP has revealed that this year's election will be difficult for Pratapravo. So BJP is also trying to field its candidate in Buldana.

Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav has visited Buldhana five times. Chikhali Constituency MLA of BJP Shweta Mahale has been seen with him during this tour.Since Buldhana is a district of Jijau, there is also a discussion in the BJP circle that a woman MP should be from here. Apart from Shweta Mahale, BJP is also discussing the name of Lok Sabha Constituency Chief Vijayraj Shinde.

It is being talked about in the political circles that there is a possibility of getting the candidacy of District Communications Chief Narendra Khedekar from the Uddhav Thackeray group. Because he has supported Uddhav Thackeray during crisis. That's how Narendra Khedekar is seen campaigning.

There is very little chance of Congress winning this seat in Mahavikas Aghadi. However, some people are known to have applied to the party for candidacy. These include Jayashree Shelke, Shyam Umalkar, Harshvardhan Sapkal.Apart from this, among the two names that are being discussed in the district are farmer leaders Ravikant Tupkar and Sandeep Shelke.

Ravikant Tupkar is constantly fighting on farmers' issues. He has held agitations for the demands of soybean-cotton farmers. But, it will not be easy for them to contest this election as an independent. Although Tupkar has sympathy for the farmers, the question remains whether it will be reflected in the votes.

What issues will be popular this year?

Irrigation and farmer suicide are burning issues in Buldana district. Apart from this, unemployment is also a big issue. These issues were also present in the 2019 and earlier elections. However, the results till date clearly show that the people of the district have thought at the national level in the Lok Sabha elections and at the local level in the Vidhan Sabha elections. Therefore, it will be important to see whether this trend of voting for Modi rather than the local candidate continues in this year's elections as well.
